Today we are proud to announce the availability of Scudo public beta 3.
We are very close to the final release, everybody is welcome to test it.
What's new:
- per-process bandwidth throttle
it is now possible to assign upload and/or download bandwidth limits independently to each managed app/process simply selecting the corresponding dummynet pipe from the managed app's popup button.
Each app/process can be set to use a specific dummynet pipe for upload and/or download. So, for example, it is possible to limit Chrome bandwidth and let Safari use full bandwidth. Or, it is possible to throttle down Facetime and Skype video calls bandwidth to spare bandwidth on you laptop while connected through your iphone's 4g limited data-plan, leaving full bandwidth for all other apps.
This function is ip- and port-agnostic. If an unlimited app and a limited app connect to the same remote IP and port, bandwidth rules will be enforced: the limited app will use only a part of the available bandwidth while the unlimited app will use full bandwidth.
By default Scudo holds 4 dummynet pipes with predefined bandwidth settings. It is possible to create as many custom pipes as needed.
- per-service bandwidth throttle
the same applies to managed services: assign pipes to a service to limit upload and/or download bandwidth for inbound connections
- profiles management
firewall configuration can be archived and restored in a convenient way from Scudo “Profiles” panel. Additionally, Scudo provides some predefined profiles.
- network monitor
improved network monitor now it’s faster and uses less memory. Monitor is an independent app with its own dedicated privileged helper.
Added per-process traffic counters and activity icons.
Added contextual menu item to add selected app to Scudo managed apps list
Added button to take a snapshot of current connections.
Added preferences button to set network monitor window style.
- remote black list
improved remote black list management. Added option to automatically update list every hour.
- graphic interface
improved GUI, bugs fixed.
Scudo is currently available in English, French, Spanish and Italian.
To update from an old beta release simply run Scudo beta 3 installer. Your old configuration will be preserved.
Please note: this is a beta release.
Scudo and all its components, including .pkg, .dmg and .zip containers are signed using a genuine and verified Apple Developer ID. Additionally, the whole package has been analyzed, approved and notarized by the Apple Notary Service
Scudo requires macOS 10.11.6 or later.
This release of Scudo has been tested on macOS 10.11.6, 10.12, 10.13 and 10.14.3.
Please report bugs to info@murus.it, thank you
